That is the question…
Another discovery in our “grand tour” of London last week was this eye-catching piece of street art. It was stencilled on a blank wall somewhere in the maze of back streets between Picadilly and Oxford Street; I can’t tell you the exact location because we were zig-zagging merrily while trying to find a way through to St Christopher’s Place and I’d got hopelessly lost by then!
The main figure is clearly the late Princess Diana, and one of my friends recognised the children as the current Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Diana is dressed as Mary Poppins, complete with umbrella and Harrods shopping bag, and there’s some rather faded pink lettering to one side which seems to read “You can be as naughty as…”, which I’m assuming is a quote from the film.
The signature is Bambi rather than Banksy, so I’m assuming it’s one of a number of similar street artists rather than the great man himself. If anyone knows any more about it, though, I’d love to find out – so please feel free to leave a comment!
