There was supposed to be another outdoor art session for members of Windermere Art Society in Kendal yesterday. I really wanted to go because it was based in the grounds of Abbot Hall, a very beautiful Grade I Listed manor house on the banks of the River Kent, which would have been wonderful to sketch.
Sadly I had to wait in for a delivery, and the weather was awful anyway with frequent heavy showers including hail. Not good for sitting outside sketching!
I made the most of the enforced time indoors to start work on a new charcoal piece of an old garden roller at Levens Hall near Kendal. The roller looked slightly abandoned, propped against a wall near the car park, so I took a photo of it and have been determined to do a proper drawing for weeks.
This is very much not the finished version as I’ll be adding more detail to the handle and the wall as well as some colour, but I’m happy with the texture on the roller itself. I’m thinking about calling it ‘Rolling Back the Years’. What do you think? Too cheesy? Should I choose something else? Let me know in the comments!
