Sold: Allan Bank in acrylics

The stewards at the Windermere Art Society exhibition have just confirmed that one of my paintings sold earlier.

This little 6×6 inch canvas is based on a photo I took a few years ago at the National Trust property of Allan Bank in Grasmere. The home of Canon Rawnsley, one of the original founders of the National Trust, it’s a lovely old place which the Trust rescued after a devastating fire and are still, slowly, bringing back to life. The gardens are full of intriguing features including a woodland trail, which starts – or finishes, depending on your direction! – at a rocky tunnel.

I photographed the view from the tunnel back towards the house, although you can’t see the building because there were too many trees in the way. Last year I thought the view would make a great little painting because of the way the tunnel walls and roof lapped over the edges of the canvas. This is only my second ever work in acrylics and I was really happy with the way it turned out. I hope the new owner enjoys finding wall space for it!
